How to add an email signature in Yahoo Mail
Yahoo Mail adds your signature automatically to every email you send once it's switched on. The web version and the mobile app keep separate signatures, so you'll set it up in each place you write from.
Don't have a signature yet? Make one in two minutes with the free Fairsig generator, then come back here. Use Copy signature (not “Copy HTML”) when you paste into a mail app's signature editor.
Yahoo Mail on a computer
- In the Fairsig generator, click Copy signature.
- Open Yahoo Mail in your desktop browser.
- Click the More options icon, then select Settings.
- Click Writing email.
- Click the toggle next to your email address to turn on a signature for it.
- Click in the signature text box and paste with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac), or type your signature.
These are the steps for the current Yahoo Mail on desktop. In the older version, Yahoo's help page has you click the Settings icon, then More Settings, then Writing email. Yahoo's instructions don't mention a Save button.
Check the result. Yahoo's help doesn't document how much formatting the signature box keeps. After pasting, write a new email to see the signature, and send one to another account (a Gmail or Outlook address) to see what recipients get.
Yahoo Mail app for iPhone and iPad
- Tap the Menu icon, then tap Settings.
- Under General, tap Signatures.
- Tap the toggle to turn the signature on.
- Tap below your username and enter or edit your signature.
- Tap the back arrow at the top left to save.
Yahoo Mail app for Android
- Tap the Menu icon, then tap Settings.
- Under General, tap Signatures.
- Turn on Include signature in new messages.
- Tap below it and enter or edit your signature. To use a different signature per account, turn on Customize for each account first and pick the account.
- Tap the back arrow at the top left to save.
The app's signature is separate from the desktop one: Yahoo says you can create a new signature for the app or rewrite the one you have on your computer. Yahoo's app instructions describe typing the signature, so keep the mobile one short: name, role and one phone number.
Yahoo Mail in a phone's browser
In the mobile website, open the menu, select Settings, tap Signature, switch it on and type your text under your username. Yahoo notes that if your phone's browser isn't supported, you can edit the signature in Yahoo Mail on a computer instead.
Tips for a signature that works in Yahoo Mail
- Images by link: a signature image must be on a public https address that every recipient can reach. Fairsig's templates link images this way.
- Keep it compact: two to four lines of contact details are plenty. See what to include.
- Plain-text readers: some people read mail as plain text, where images don't appear. Keep your name, phone and email as text, never inside an image.
Questions
Does my Yahoo Mail signature sync to the app?
No. Yahoo's help page says signatures in the Yahoo Mail app are different from the ones saved on your desktop computer. Set it up in both places.
Can I have different signatures for different addresses?
On the web, yes: Yahoo lets you create a signature for each mail username added to your Yahoo account, whatever the mail provider. In the Android app, turn on Customize for each account.
Will my logo and formatting survive in Yahoo Mail?
Yahoo's help pages don't say whether formatting and images pasted into the signature box are kept. Paste, then send a test email to another account. If images are missing, check that they are hosted at public https addresses; if all formatting is gone, use a plain-text version.
How do I turn off my signature in Yahoo Mail?
Go to Settings, then Writing email, and switch the toggle next to the address off. In the app, use the toggle under Settings > Signatures.
