Email signatures for designers
A designer’s signature is a small portfolio piece that every client sees. The trick is restraint: clean type, one accent colour, a link to your work, and nothing that breaks in Outlook. Three examples and the details that matter.
What to include
- Name and what you design: “Brand & Graphic Designer”, “Senior Product Designer”.
- Portfolio link as the website: the page with your work, not a generic home page.
- One or two design profiles: Behance, Dribbble, Instagram or LinkedIn.
- A booking link if clients schedule calls with you.
- A photo or a logo, not both competing: freelancers often use a photo, studios a logo.
3 designer email signature examples
Names, studios and links are fictional.
Freelance brand designer
| Lena Moreau Brand & Graphic Designer Studio Moreau | |
| T (503) 555-0137 E lena@studiomoreau.example W studiomoreau.example/work | |
| Made with Fairsig | |
The website goes straight to the portfolio, and Behance and Dribbble replace the usual social networks: that's where clients check a designer's work.
Product designer with pronouns
| Sam Okafor (they/them) Senior Product Designer Tidewater Health | |
| Made with Fairsig | |
The website doubles as a portfolio link, and the pronouns sit quietly next to the name. Two color icons are enough: more would compete with the work itself.
UX designer with a booking link
| Jordan Lee (he/him) UX Designer & Researcher Fieldnote | |
| Made with Fairsig | |
A booking link turns 'let's find a time' into one click. Pronouns sit next to the name, and LinkedIn is the one profile that matters for in-house roles.
Design choices that survive every inbox
- One accent colour, used for the divider and links. Pick it in the generator’s Design step.
- Web-safe type: Helvetica, Arial or Trebuchet for a clean look, Georgia for an editorial one (fonts compared).
- Icons, not logos-as-links: the generator’s social icons are small, linked images with alt text (social icons guide).
- Dark mode: check your logo on a dark background (dark mode guide).
- Show off sparingly: a banner for a launch or an exhibition is a Pro extra; use it for a limited time (banners).
Questions
Should a designer's email signature be an image?
No. An image signature is invisible when the reader's email app blocks images, isn't clickable, and can't be searched or copied. Build it in HTML text and let your logo or photo be the one image. Your taste shows in the type, spacing and colour, which survive.
Can I use my brand font?
Not in the text: most email apps don't load web fonts in signatures, and classic Outlook ignores them. Use a web-safe font that is close in feel, and keep your brand font inside your logo.
Behance, Dribbble or my own site?
Your own portfolio site first, as the main link. Then one or two of the profiles where clients actually look at your work: Behance or Dribbble for visual design, LinkedIn for in-house roles.
More layouts: all templates, and signatures for photographers and marketers.
